Sen. Armed Forces Committee Urges Secretary Carter Not to Strip Gen. Petraeus of 4 Star Rank

In a letter sent Wednesday to Defense Secretary Ash Carter, Armed Services Chairman John McCain of Arizona and ranking Democrat Jack Reed of Rhode Island assert the punitive action, first reported Monday by the Daily Beast, is being considered too long after Petraeus' retirement and his guilty plea on charges of passing along classified information.

“We are concerned such a retirement grade review, taking place nearly a year after the misdemeanor conviction in which General Petraeus admitted his guilt, and apologized for his actions, is manifestly unreasonable and unfair,” the senators wrote.
