The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund is set to hit the airwaves on behalf of Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback (R) next week, becoming the latest group to to rally to his side in what is shaping up as a tougher race than many observers initially expected.
The NRA-PVF, which endorsed Brownback earlier this week, has bought about $146,000 worth of airtime in the Wichita media market for the period between Sept. 30 and Oct. 13, according to public records.
"Sam Brownback has done more in his first term as governor to protect our Second Amendment rights than almost any governor in Kansas history," said NRA-PVF Chairman Chris W. Cox in a Monday statement announcing the endorsement. "He signed into law nine pro-gun bills, including one providing for concealed carry reciprocity with all fifty states."
Brownback faces state House Minority Leader Paul Davis (D), who polls show is running competitively with the governor. Brownback has faced blowback from his own party over tax cuts and slashes to education spending that he spearheaded.
