Republican officials: Denver's experience with national political convention gives it an edge

Denver is in the running to be the host of the 2016 Republican National Convention. The city hosted the Democrats' convention in 2008.

Denver’s experience hosting the Democratic National Convention in 2008 gives it an advantage in the race to host the 2016 Republican National Convention, national GOP officials said Tuesday while in town for a visit.

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus and Enid Mickelsen, chairwoman of the 13-member RNC Site Selection Committee, told a media gathering that Denver has proven it knows how to handle the transportation and security logistics for a major national event and that such experience will help.

Denver is competing against Cleveland, Dallas and Kansas City for the next RNC.
